The most common type of environmental noise survey is the British Standard BS4142:2014+A1:2019 “Method for Rating and Assessing Industrial and Commercial Sound.” This Standard provides a methodology for assessing industrial noise and then rates the noise source against the local area background noise climate. It allows for determination of acceptable levels of noise from industrial and commercial premises when assessed at residential properties and development sites.
Once a rating level has been produced for the specific noise source, it can be determined if it is likely to give rise to “Justifiable” complaints from the noise sensitive premises. BS4142:2014+A1:2019’s methodology is widely utilised by local authorities throughout the UK when dealing with noise of an industrial nature.
We provide the necessary noise monitoring to produce the BS4142:2014+A1:2019 rating of the noise source or sources and produce the acoustic report required to validate the output with respect to “justifiability” of complaints, either acting on behalf of the complainant or the defendant.
Where necessary additional mitigating noise control measures can be included as part of the service to allow the noise source to be operated within the time periods or constraints desired, whilst maintaining the “amenity” of the nearby noise sensitive premises.
